CSE Network Toolkit - Station Manager

Station Manager allows administrators unparalleled control over a wide variety of vital workstation operations. Administrators can observe and control remote clients, which can be grouped in a logical structure analogous to the real, physical layout of the school.

With its logical, hierarchical structure, administrators can easily control and monitor a large number of computers on the local network. Computers on the LAN can be organized into logical, named groups. These groups can accommodate any number of subgroups, allowing administrators to ‘map’ the physical layout of the network (for example ‘class room’ groups within ‘building’ groups, etc.) This means that controlling specific areas of your LAN is simple with no need to visit to the classroom.

What makes Station Manager really special is the ease with which administrators can perform a wide variety of vital tasks. You can observe, browse and control client systems. You can launch programs remotely, transfer files (even to mapped network drives), switch computers off, on and restart. Detailed activity logs are stored centrally, telling you all you need to know about student log in/log off, application start/stop and internet usage. Each logged activity contains the user name of the computer and the activity time.

F
or their part, users can send help requests to ICT staff, with real-time text chat messaging and audio conversation allowing for swift, efficient communication.

Security is, of course, paramount. Administrators are always authenticated against a central directory and different administrator accounts can be assigned different rights of access. Sensitive stations (e.g. staff users) can be password protected so they can only be viewed and controlled with permission.

Station Manager puts you in control. With its ‘real-life’ structure, it means that you can keep on top of your network, without having to leave your desk.

Station Manager Features:
  • An overall view of the network
  • Deterrent against abuse
  • Instant view of network usage and problems
  • Simple administration of client computers without having to visit them
  • Instant on line support for users
  • Protection for sensitive users, such as staff
  • Audit facility to allow network effectiveness and value to be measured
  • Logging provides simple trace of network abuse
